Local Election coverage 2016 across regional TV.

Coverage of the 2016 Local elections and the rather bigger campaigns for the Welsh Assembly & the Scottish Parliament was a bit more significant.  I checked out the coverage overnight across all the regional TV stations..

There wasn’t too much coverage of what was going on in England outside BBC ONE’s core overnight coverage and it’s simulcast on the BBC News Channel. ITV stuck with their usual overnight shopping/gambling premium rate phone content. However in Wales & Scotland there was more comprehensive coverage with full overnight coverage on ITV Wales of the Welsh Assembley results and STV offered “Scotland Decides” with almost as much coverage as they gave during the independence referendum back in 2014.  This coverage was also taken by ITV Border Scotland in South Scotland.

Coverage overnight;

BBC ONE English regions & BBC ONE HD – overnight coverage of local election results and Wales & Scotland.  The BBC ONE english regions also opted out for live by area local election results at times, and to cover such things as the Mayoral result for Liverpool on BBC ONE North West.

BBC News Channel – as BBC ONE

BBC Parliament – took the BBC ONE Scotland coverage of the Scottish parliament results.

BBC ONE Scotland – dedicated to the Scottish parliamentary results of course, for the rest of the country this coverage was also available on BBC Parliament.

BBC ONE Wales – overnight coverage of the Welsh Assembly results.

ITV regions in England – coverage of local elections on regional news bulletins only, no overnight coverage.

ITV Wales – Full overnight from the end of News At Ten of the Welsh Assembly results.

ITV Border Scotland – Took STV’s “Scotland Decides” coverage

STV – “Scotland Decides” full overnight coverage of the Scottish Parliamentary results starting after News At Ten. they also had more programmes in the morning and afternoon cancelling “Judge Rinder”. STV also simulcast their coverage on their local TV channels STV Glasgow & STV Edinburgh.

UTV – as ITV in England, but no gambling, showed ITV Nightscreen

There was a small amount of coverage on other news chanenls such as France 24 & CNN.

ITV London News at 6pm the following day focused most on the mayoral result, which was Boris Johnson leaving and Labour’s Khan being on course to win.
